Worse Than War

It’s been extremely difficult for me to navigate what I consider to be new daily lows for utter senselessness and disorder in so many areas of civic life. How do I square art with the fact that it hasn’t stopped any of this from continuing to happen?
But beauty gives us aesthetic hope -- it shows itself as an option, and there are many more ways to be beautiful than just on the outside. So, next time we will continue with thinking about those things.
But, as international leaders CHOOSE to drag us into yet another period of artless, loveless global fear and conflict, I must take the time to urge anyone reading this to at least watch the special Worse Than War at the above link (if you don’t have the guts for 900 hard-ass stomach-turning pages of what people CHOOSE because of their fragility).
Decades of recommending it have helped nothing, but I will not stop sharing it. It is a moving and deadly serious display of the power of communication. It is academic, systematic, and underscores how careless we’ve been with the messages we disseminate.
All it takes is messaging and time to convince everyday people to butcher friends and neighbors to death with machetes, march them to death in camps, kidnap them and deport them, chain them to beds and rape them, sterilize them, run them over in their cars, shoot up their synagogue or church or school or workplace, disgrace them, dehumanize them with cruel enthusiasm. We. Are. All. Susceptible.
Admission is the first step to recovery, isn’t it?
